7) Course description: Introduction to basic theory of rings, fields, modules, vector spaces, and related topics, including an overview of Galois Theory.
8) Calculation of final grade: there will be homework problems assigned as appropriate. They will count for 100 points overall. We will have an exam after every chapter consisting of an in class part worth 50 points and a take home part also worth 50 points. Grade will be calculated based on the ratio of points achieved vs points possible. Attendance is optional, but the ambitious student will find it worthwhile.
